Macchia Rosso al Mirto is a distinctive Italian red vermouth that bridges Piedmont and Sardinia through a bold fusion of regional terroir. Created by bartender Emilio Rocchino in 2014, this vermouth blends Moscato from Sardinia with Cortese from Piedmont, infused with eighteen botanicals including wormwood, gentian root, helichrysum, myrtle berry, and citrus. The signature myrtle—Sardinia's most celebrated botanical—delivers the wine's garnet color and characteristic flavor. Each botanical infuses for up to 120 days before blending. At 18% alcohol with just 150 grams per liter of cane sugar, it's lighter than most vermouths on the market. The nose reveals Mediterranean scrub, wild berries, fresh myrtle, vanilla, and citrus wrapped in caramel. The palate balances bright herbal notes with persistent bitterness from gentian and cinchona, finishing long and satisfying.
